Barry Stewart claims close Retro Rallycross win at Lydden Hill

1 Mins read

Porsche 911 driver Barry Stewart claimed victory in the sixth round of the 2016 Retro Rallycross Championship after a close battle with Ray Morgan in the final.

Double John Button Memorial Trophy-winner Morgan set the fastest time in Q1, while Stewart was quickest in Q2 and Q3 to secure Pole Position for the final.

Stewart led from the start, but Morgan applied pressure to the Porsche 911 driver right from the get-go. But Stewart held on to claim victory at Lydden Hill after a race-long battle with the Ford Escort BDA driver.

Retro Rallycross-returnee Lance Foster finished third, while Stewart Bowes and Ian Biagi were fourth and fifth respectively. Paul Smith and Jordan Bowes complete the seven finishers for the latest Retro Rallycross Championship round at Lydden Hill.

Lydden Hill winner Stewart said “Ray really made me work for that, he was on me all the time. I was slightly quicker on the more powerful parts, but Ray was on me on the loose sections like a rash.

“He’s like a little terrier, he’s always just there. This was a brilliant days racing – great fun. I’m doing the Brighton Speed Trials next weekend and then off to Croft for the final round of the Retro Championship in October. I’m looking forward to it already.”

The final round of the 2016 Retro Rallycross Championship is at Croft, North Yorkshire on the 23 October 2016.
