Ben Barnicoat continued to prove himself as one of the better wet weather drivers in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship after a third place finish in race on at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday.

The British racer enjoyed a good battle with Nick Cassidy once the race got underway following a safety car start, with the Hitech GP driver holding on ahead of the Prema Powerteam driver to take his first podium finish since winning race one at Pau back in May.

Barnicoat admitted that his lack of experience in Formula 3 machinery is not as obvious when it comes to wet weather, which is traditionally a great leveller in all forms of motorsport.

“It seems as if things always seem to be going pretty well for me in the rain,” said Barnicoat to fiaf3europe.com. “I think that my lack of Formula 3 experience doesn’t play such a big role in the rain.

“Shortly after the safety car had pulled in, I was alongside Nick Cassidy going through the Raidillon. I really wanted that third place and I admit that I was a bit nervous at that moment, too, but I pulled it off and I brought third place home, with which I am very happy.”
