Dorian Boccolacci secured his fifth podium finish of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season during race two at Paul Ricard on Sunday, enjoying a close battle with Max Defourny in the process, having been one of the stars of Saturdays race.

The Tech 1 Racing had started well down the pack in seventeenth after an uncharacteristically poor qualifying performance, but picked off driver after driver to claim fifth.

But Boccolacci was unable to better third on Sunday despite a much better qualifying performance, with Lando Norris escaping for the win and Defourny holding on for second.

“After a difficult qualifying session yesterday followed by a nice move up the order by always taking controlled risks, I only had two drivers to pass today in starting third,” said Boccolacci on renaultsport.com.

“I got a better exit out of turn two than Max before he retook the spot. It was fun to be side by side all the way through the Signe corner. I tried to comeback late in the race, but I couldn’t find an opening on Max!

“A big thank you to the team for their work during the weekend. I promised them that we will return stronger in order to step on to the top step of the podium before the end of the season.”
