Niko Kari will make his GP3 Series debut this weekend as he takes the place of Ralph Boschung at Koiranen GP at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Red Bull-protégé has joined Matt Parry and Matevos Isaakyan in the team, with Boschung forced to withdraw after coming into financial issues.
Kari, who competes in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship in 2016 with Motopark, finished second last weekend at the Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, and is looking forward to making his bow in GP3.
“This is a nice opportunity for me,” said Kari. “Koiranen is a great and experienced team so I am really looking forward to working with them this weekend.
“The plan is to complete my season with MotoPark in the F3 Euro series. This opportunity with Koiranen came along at the right time and I’m really excited about this weekend.”
Kari is the latest in the line of Red Bull Junior Team drivers to compete in GP3, with current F1 racers Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr amongst those having plied their trade in the championship.
As well as Koiranen’s driver change, Jenzer Motorsport have also switched drivers, with Oscar Tunjo making a welcome return to the team in place of Richard Gonda. Tunjo joins Akash Nandy and Arjun Maini in the line-up for Spa.
