Wrigley Heads Supercup Field In Knockhill Qualifying

1 Mins read

Tom Wrigley has secured his third Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup pole position of the season so far with a commanding performance in qualifying at Knockhill.

The Rob Boston Racing ace topped the timesheets for the majority of the session in Scotland, pulling out a best effort of 51.970 to take top spot.

Just like in the championship standings, Wrigley’s closest rival was Will Burns, though the Douglas Motorsport man was trading second with Carl Boardley throughout the session.

In the end, a 52.032 lap put Burns on the front row and consigned Boardley to third by a tenth of a second – though that remain his best qualifying result of the season so far.

Fourth fastest at one stage was Ben Green, though an unfortunate mechanical problem in his SuperGreen Racing G55 led to his session coming to a premature end.

Reece Somerfield and Tom Hibbert would go on to improve their times and complete the top five, with Green finishing up sixth ahead of TCR duo Mark Davies and Callum Pointon.

In the AM class, it was the usual story with Colin White leading the way by over three tenths of a second from series regulars Chris Ingram and Fraser Robertson.

These times will set the grid for the second race of the afternoon at 17:10, with the rescheduled final race from Snetterton coming up first at 13:50.

It’s Hibbert who will start that from the reverse grid pole ahead of Burns, Boardley and Wrigley, with the absence of Jamie Orton promoting Somerfield and Davies into the top six.

There are two Supercup races this afternoon, with the rescheduled final race from Snetterton at 13:50, before the first Knockhill encounter at 17:10.

Full qualifying results can be found here.
