Ashley Sutton moved MG to the top of the times in Saturday’s second Dunlop MSA Touring Car Championship free practice session of the day at Silverstone.
After rain affected the day’s early action in Northamptonshire, times fell under the one-minute barrier in a drier second 40-minute outing of the day, rookie Sutton denying Adam Morgan a sweep of both practice sessions.
Triple Eight‘s Sutton headed a mightily close session by a mere 0.071s, Aiden Moffat the only absentee in a 31-car field separated by just 1.806s.
A late burst by Sutton moved him to the top of the times with a 58.589s effort, heading Tom Ingram who also left his best until last to move up to second and demote Morgan’s Mercedes A-Class to third.
Rockingham winner Aron Smith shone for Team BKR in fourth place, Rob Austin making it two Toyota Avensis machines in the top five.
Power Maxed Racing also enjoyed a strong session, Hunter Abbott next up in sixth while the returning Kelvin Fletcher finished 14th, ahead of the likes of Gordon Shedden (19th), Rob Collard (21st) and Jason Plato (22nd).
Seventh went the way of Andrew Jordan‘s Motorbase Performance Ford Focus ST, Josh Cook next up in eighth while Jake Hill‘s Toyota Avensis survived a spin at Copse to finish ninth ahead of Martin Depper‘s Honda Civic Type-R.
Colin Turkington lead the charge for Silverline Subaru BMR Racing in 11th place, series leader Sam Tordoff ending the session 12th heading into a crucial qualifying session.
