The VW Racing Cup has announced its calendar for the 2017 season, with the series once again remaining a staple on the British GT package.
The flyaway round to Spa-Francorchamps remain, as Silverstone has been removed. While the Silverstone 500 is one of the highlights of the British GT season, VW’s will not be featuring as it’s likely they have been replaced with a guest series for the headline round.
The start of the season has also changed with the series no longer kicking off at Rockingham. As it continues to follow the GT calendar, the Cup will once again launch at Oulton Park on the Easter weekend.
Two rounds in Rockingham and Snetterton are followed by a month and a half gap before the trip to Spa, missing Silverstone. To make up for this, a round at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit will split the final two events of Brands Hatch GP and the season finale at Donington Park.
The championship remains seven rounds long with the majority of circuits holding two races. The event at Brands Hatch Indy will see the VW’s take to the garages as the headline act for ‘The German Festival’.
The championship manager, Stuart Lines said; “The whole team have worked incredibly hard to devise a calendar that is in the best interests all the teams and drivers for 2017, and we are extremely proud of it. We have the added the all new German Festival for 2017 which we are confident will be a major success for the championship.”
Going into the final round of the 2016 season, at the aforementioned Brands Hatch Indy circuit, Phil House leads the standings with 488 points. Closely behind remains Tom Witts on 457, while Kenan Dole and Bobby Thompson have an outside chance on 416 and 400 points respectively.
