Valtteri Bottas felt that it was a straightforward day at the Circuit of the Americas on Friday for the Williams Martini Racing driver.

The Finn finished sixth fastest in the opening session with a time of 1:39.776 but down in fourteenth in the second session after a time of 1:39.197, and even experienced the Halo head protection system in the morning.

Bottas feels the balance of his FW38 was good around the Austin circuit but knows there is still some work to do in order to have a competitive weekend as they continue their fight the Sahara Force India F1 Team for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship.

“Today’s practice was pretty straightforward with no problems for me,” revealed Bottas. “We covered all three compounds we have available here this week and did a double install with the halo device.

“The starting balance of the car was perfectly good, as well as the driveability, but there’s still plenty of work to do in both the short and long runs. We can make improvements in all areas I think ahead of tomorrow.”
