Colton Herta dominated the opening race of the weekend at the Circuito de Jerez, taking pole position, leading every lap and setting the fastest lap on Saturday.
The young American took his Carlin machine to the front during the qualifying session on Saturday morning, and after getting a good getaway was untouchable until the chequered flag, beating Leonardo Pulcini by 7.519 seconds for his third victory of the season.
“It all came together just like it did at Red Bull Ring,” said Herta. “The car has been amazing so far this weekend and we have managed to put it all together to get a great result.
“We need to follow this up tomorrow with pole position and the double win. We need to keep pushing, as we know others will be pushing to catch us – so we need to keep moving forwards and pushing for an even bigger gap.”
Herta could not match his performance on Sunday, ultimately being forced to settle for fourth after a robust defence from debutant Harrison Scott, although the American did claim the points for third with the Briton ineligible to score in Spain.
