Sergio Perez believed it was a good session for his Sahara Force India F1 Team in Abu Dhabi after they locked out the fourth row on the grid, although he rued his own final lap as he believed he should have qualified ahead of team-mate Nico Hülkenberg.

The Mexican is hopeful of ending the season on a high at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday, especially if they complete their task of finishing ahead of Williams Martini Racing in the Constructors’ Championship, with Perez himself aiming to finish seventh in the Drivers’ standings, which would be his best result to date in his blossoming career.

“I am pleased with the result for the team, locking down the fourth row of the grid, but I am not very happy with my performance because I know I could have done better,” said Perez.

“I had a bit of understeer on my last lap so I tried to change my lines to counter it, but it didn’t really work. I could have been in P7 with a perfect lap, but with Nico just ahead it’s still a great result for the team.

“I am looking forward to our last race as team-mates and beating the cars around us to finish the season on a high note. I want to outscore our rivals because finishing fourth in the championship is a really important objective for us.”
