Franz Tost believes Daniil Kvyat remains a good fit within his Scuderia Toro Rosso team, and believes the Russian staying with the outfit for 2017 will be critical with the regulation changes that are coming into effect.

The team principle of the Faenza-based team remains confident the team have made the right decision in retaining Kvyat rather than promoting Pierre Gasly to the team for next season, and believes the continuality within the driver line-up will be a boost for the whole team for 2017.

Tost points out that Kvyat has a podium finish this season in the Chinese Grand Prix whilst driving for Red Bull Racing, and believes the young Russian still has a lot to offer within Formula 1 as he heads into his fourth season in the sport.

“First of all, Daniil Kvyat is a very high-skilled driver,” said Tost on f1i.com. “As we know from the past, he won the GP3 championship, and he was this year in China on the podium. Therefore, we are convinced of his talent.

“Secondly, his experience because next year will be his [fourth] season in Formula 1, and especially with the new regulations, his experience will help us.

“And third, each party knows each other now very well. That means the co-operation also regarding next year’s new car will help us hopefully to operate quite successfully.”
