Ferdinand Habsburg will make his FIA European Formula 3 Championship debut in 2017 after joining Carlin Motorsport after stepping up from racing in EuroFormula Open and Formula Renault 2.0 last season.

The nineteen-year-old Austrian pointed out the record Carlin have in developing talent, and feels that joining them on the back of a successful year in EuroFormula Open is exciting, especially after on-track battles last year with Carlin racer Colton Herta.

“Carlin has an incredible record for developing talent and when you look at what some of their drivers have gone on to do in their careers since, it’s really inspiring,” said Habsburg.

“I raced against Carlin this year in EuroFormula Open and their cars were always very well-prepared, so it will be interesting to see how they work up close. I’m really excited to get going!”

Habsburg’s season in EuroFormula Open saw him take two race victories and finish second in the championship with Drivex School, and he feels moving into the European F3 scene in 2017 is the right move for the young Austrian’s career.

“I’m extremely excited about the upcoming season especially after a really good year in F3 Open so coming off the back of that gives me a lot of confidence for a competitive season with Carlin,” said Habsburg.

“FIA F3 is the next step for us and I think that a good winter test schedule as well as racing in New Zealand will mean that we’re looking strong from the start. Carlin has a great history in Formula Three so we’ll be going into the season working well together with a great package; everything is looking very positive for 2017.”
