Welcome to 2017, and welcome to our new monthly guide of what’s coming up on theCheckeredFlag.co.uk.

While a lot of people view the winter period as ‘off-season’ there is still plenty of motorsport action happening around the world. the legendary Dakar Rally is once again under way and you can follow all the action with daily reports here.

Later this week the build up to the Rolex 24 at Daytona begins with the Roar Before the 24, this takes place from Friday 6, through to Sunday 8 and we will be bringing you all the latest news from those sessions here.

January also brings the annual Autosport International show, expect lots of news and announcements throughout the four days (12 – 15) of the show along with photos. Keep a look out for announcements from the top-line national series like British GT and BTCC, plus all the support races. This weekend also provides the opening round of the 24 Hour Endurance series with the 24 Hours of Dubai.

The annual Race of Champions takes part on the weekend of 21/22 January which will see competitors from all forms of motorsport disciplines go head-to-head once again in a variety of vehicles.

With one legendary rally finishing, another iconic and season opening rally begins in Monte Carlo, as the FIA World Rally Championship gets under way from 19 January. We will be reporting daily with all the excitement throughout the event.

From 26 January the sportscar team will be getting very busy as the race weekend arrives for the 2017 edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. We will have all the news from the practice and qualifying sessions along with hourly reports throughout the race, check out the latest news.

Aside from all of this action we will be keeping you up to date with news from all the other series we cover, including the latest Formula 1 news.
