Alexander Albon ensured ART Grand Prix set the pace for a second consecutive day at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Tuesday as the Thai GP3 Series graduate continued his adaptation to FIA Formula 2 Championship machinery.

After Nobuharu Matsushita hit the front on Monday, Albon set a time of 1:28.225 during the morning session, more than seven-tenths faster than his team-mate managed the day previously, with Johnny Cecotto Jr again showing good pace with the second fastest time for Rapax, 0.025 seconds back.

Artem Markelov was third quickest for the Russian Time team as he continues his preparation for his fourth season with the outfit, with Nicholas Latifi fourth for DAMS ahead of Norman Nato of Permamina Arden.

Luca Ghiotto was sixth in the second Russian Time machine ahead of the second DAMS entry of Oliver Rowland, with Prema Racing duo Antonio Fuoco and Charles Leclerc eighth and tenth, either side of MP Motorsport’s Jordan King.

Gustav Malja caused a red flag during the morning and subsequently had all of his times deleted due to the stewards finding his Racing Engineering machine to be underweight.

The afternoon session was primarily used to run race simulations, and it was headed by Rapax’s Nyck de Vries, with his time of 1:29.223 seeing him finish ahead of Fuoco and Leclerc, with Cecotto fourth ahead of Campos Racing’s Roberto Merhi.

King was sixth ahead of Trident duo Sergio Canamasas and Nabil Jeffri, while Permamina Arden’s Sean Gelael and Campos Racing’s Ralph Boschung.
