Scuderia Toro Rosso were desperate to make up for some of the time they lost during last week’s testing, and made a commendable effort today as Daniil Kvyat achieved a total of 83 laps. He finished ninth overall with a best time of 1:21.743.
Kvyat and the team didn’t have a moment to spare throughout the day; even their lunch break was spent fixing new parts to the car vital for the gathering of data during the afternoon.
“It was good to finally complete such a big number of laps today,” he said. “After losing a bit of track time in last week’s test, we’ve now managed to gather a lot of useful information after testing many things in one same day – which was also quite a smooth one, with no big issues.
“Now we can analyse all of this data overnight and keep working hard throughout the week in order to get ready for Australia.”
But the set-up work and tyre analysis undertaken produced a lot of data that will be analysed overnight in preparation for Carlos Sainz’s run tomorrow. Sainz will run further updates that the team hope will provide them with a boost in performance.
“We will now spend the night going through the data in preparation for tomorrow, when Carlos will get the opportunity to continue where Daniil left off, including the evaluation of some further development parts which we anticipate will provide an opportunity for further steps forwards with the STR12,” Jody Egginton, head of vehicle performance, added.
