Stephen Jones has announced he is to return to the RX150 Rallycross Championship in 2017 after finishing runner up in the series last season.

Jones, who beat season-long rival Jake Harris to second in the standings last season after drop scores came into effect was pleased with the result last season and hoped that this experience will help him for 2017. He said: “I enjoyed last season, it was very close at times. I made some mistakes which I can try and learn from going forward, but I felt more comfortable in the buggy, especially going back to tracks that I’d already been to. Finishing on the Championship podium was definitely the highlight.”

The Havant-based driver also confirmed that he is to miss the opening round of the championship at Croft Circuit on March 19, although he will be able to make up for this as the RX150 rules state that all competitors can drop their two lowest championship scores over the course of the season.

Despite finishing second last year, Jones admitted that he hasn’t driven his buggy since the season’s finale last season and added: I’ve not driven the buggy since the Grand Prix at Croft last year and I’m not sure if I’ll have time to test before Lydden Hill, but I’m looking forward to it and it’s enjoyable to race with a full grid. I would like to try to improve my starts this year and it would be good to get some more podium finishes.”

The 2017 RX150 Championship will take place over nine rounds beginning with the opening round at Croft Circuit on March 19.
