McLaren Honda Formula 1 Team is collaborating with Amazon Prime Video to create a documentary series following the team over the course of the 2017 Formula 1 season.
The documentary filmmakers have been granted unparalleled access to the team and new driver Stoffel Vandoorne as they compete in this year’s World Championship.
Cameras followed the team throughout their winter preparations as they built, launched and tested the MCL32. And Vandoorne was filmed as he got himself ready for his first full season in the driver’s seat.
The series will provide a rare behind the scenes look at the inner workings of a Formula 1 team, as Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted Amazon Originals, explains.
“The series brings Amazon Prime members inside what it takes to compete at the highest level of Formula 1 racing,” he said. “The series will combine unparalleled access with exciting and dramatic storytelling that will appeal to racing fans and non-racing fans alike.”
Zak Brown, Executive Director of the McLaren Technology Group, sees it as an opportunity of sharing even more with their fans.
“At McLaren, we want to showcase and celebrate every element of Formula 1,” he said. “We understand and appreciate that Formula 1 fans are always keen for greater levels of access, insight and information, and this series will give them the most intimate and honest access to a modern Formula 1 team that’s ever been seen.
“While we wanted to show the technology and expertise that go into building these machines, we also wanted to show the passion, commitment and effort of the hundreds of people at the McLaren Technology Centre whose efforts take us racing every season.
“Ultimately, Formula 1 is a very human story; and my true hope is that the series successfully captures the honesty and humanity of living, working and racing in Formula 1.”
The series will be available globally but is exclusive to Amazon Prime Video.
