Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr was in a more positive mood on Wednesday, having completed an afternoon of running in the STR12 on day two of the in-season test at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was a hugely frustrating one for the Spaniard, who experienced numerous technical difficulties across the race weekend, before having to retire from the main event last Sunday, following a collision with Williams Martini Racing driver Lance Stroll on lap twelve.

The test programme however, went much more according to plan and the team were able to run through their schedule without any stoppages, testing numerous parts, completing aero dedicated and mechanical tests, and leaving everyone involved in a confident mood ahead of the next round of the 2017 Formula 1 season.

“I think we can be very happy with how this test went, both yesterday with Sean and today with Daniil and myself – to have two clean days and be able to test many parts was just what we needed.

“I’d like to thank the team and Renault, as it’s been very useful. Overall, I end a positive day with very good feelings and lots of things learned.”

“I now look forward to the next race weekend in Russia!”

With some positive results achieved across the two days of testing in Bahrain, Toro Rosso are planning to put what they have learnt to good use at the upcoming Russian Grand Prix, with the belief they can put on a much stronger performance in Sochi and rise up the order.
