Ed Jones is preparing himself for his first Verizon IndyCar Series race on an oval this weekend when he competes at the Phoenix International Raceway for his Dale Coyne Racing team.

The English-born Dubai racer has enjoyed a positive start to the season with two top ten finishes in the opening two races, and although that run came to an end last weekend at Barber Motorsports Park he is still sitting ninth in the championship standings.

Jones finished second at Phoenix in 2016 during his Indy Lights championship winning season, but believes it will be a difficult race this weekend, especially as he comes to terms with the traffic that is likely to have a big effect on the race results.

“I did pretty well at Phoenix last year in Indy Lights and we tested there a couple of months ago so I feel pretty comfortable around the track,” said Jones. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how it is racing in the pack, in traffic, because I think that will be the most difficult part.

“It’s probably one of the most challenging ovals, I’d say, just because of its characteristics. It will be a tough weekend but I’m confident we can do well.”
