Di Grassi believed he had car to beat Buemi

Lucas di Grassi believes that his Abt Schaeffler Audi car had the pace to beat Sebastien Buemi this weekend.

Di Grassi showed impressive pace in the last phase of the race, closing right up to the back of the Renault e.dams car.

However the tight layout of the Monaco circuit made it difficult to pass, but di Grassi believes that has his title rival made any mistakes he would have been there to capitalise.

It shows a marked difference from last year, where di Grassi believed that the Renault package was consistently faster than Abt’s.

Speaking after the race the Brazilian said, “This was another great fight today – both in qualifying and in the race. We had a car we could have beaten Renault with.

“Unfortunately, the track in Monaco hardly offers any overtaking opportunities, plus Séb is a strong and experienced driver – but if he’d left the door open just a little bit, I would no doubt have launched an attack.”

The exciting finale to the race reconfirms that this season is set to once again be a tussle between the two drivers.

And it’s one that team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt promised would continue throughout the season.

“The ePrix was a symbol of how the season has gone so far: Lucas and Sébastien thrill the crowd with one duel after the other – always tough, but always fair,” Abt said.

“I can promise all the fans that we’re going to continue exactly like this.”
