It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of Nicky Hayden. The Honda World Superbike rider succumbed to injuries sustained from a serious accident where he was hit by a car whilst cycling.

A statement from the hospital read:

“The medical college has confirmed the death of the patient Nicholas Patrick Hayden, recovering from Wednesday May 17 in a hospital intensive care unit of Cesena Bufalini as a result of serious multiple injuries occurred on that date.”

Nicky took the 2006 MotoGP World Championship from Valentino Rossi but also excelled as an AMA Pro Flat Track racer. He most recently signed for the Red Bull Honda WSBK team alongside Stefan Bradl.

He was an extremely popular character in the paddock, and will sorely be missed by everyone. We extend our best wishes to his friends and family at this extremely difficult time.

RIP Nicky Hayden, 1981-2017.
