Lorandi: “I Won’t Forget my First Win in Single Seaters Easily”

A coming-of-age weekend for Leonardo Lorandi saw the rookie claim his first win in the Italian F4 Champioship. In what was only his second event of the season. A strong Adria weekend all round sees the BhaiTech driver become the highest ranking rookie in the series, fifth in the standings.

The first race of the weekend saw the Italian driver stay out of trouble, collecting fifth and putting him in a good position for race two. A quick start soon saw him up to third in front of race one winner Job Van Uitert.

“It’s been an incredible weekend,” said Lorandi. “I won’t forget my first win in single seaters easily. I was fourth after the start of race 2 and I fought with Van Uitert. I passed him under braking with a very good move and then I tried to catch the leading duo although it was very tough to get them.”

As the race went on, the leading duo of Lorenzo Colombo and Marcus Armstrong broke away from the pack behind, but eventually came to a head when the two collided, sending Colombo into the barrier and the Prema Powerteam driver into the pits.

“I was pretty much calm when Armstrong and Colombo put each other out in a contact leaving me first place with four laps to go. It was incredible to find myself leading with Van Uitert pushing hard, and I finally kept him at bay, cruising to victory!”

Lorandi would go on to take the fastest lap in the final race, but could only record a sixth place after falling back in the latter laps.

“In race 3 I got a good start but I ran too wide in a corner to avoid touching with Armstrong. I passed on the dirty side and in just one lap I lost positions and touch with the leaders. It’s a pity but third place is positive as well as the whole weekend. I scored points in every race…”

The next Italian F4 weekend will take place at Vallelunga on June 25.
