Mercedes continued their dominance in the second free practice session of the opening weekend of the 2017 DTM season as Lucas Auer, Paul Di Resta, Edoardo Mortara and Robert Wickens took the top four spots on the timing sheets.

The first of the non-Mercedes drivers in the incident free sessions was Nico Müller who finished just ahead of reigning champion Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock.

Maro Engel run as high as third place in the session but was left to settle for eighth place ahead of Mike Rockenfeller and Mercedes’ Gary Paffett who lead the initial stages of the session.

Maxime Martin’s managed to complete thirteen laps after technical issues kept him off track yesterday.

“I hope that we can carry over this result into qualifying. There, we will go flat-out,” Lucas Auer emphasised.

“Today, I had a slightly better feeling than yesterday. The opposition is very strong, but I think that there is still some potential in the car for qualifying,” the Swiss driver commented.
