Gabriel Aubry admitted that he thought about quitting Formula Renault competition at the end of 2016, but the Frenchman worked hard during the off-season on his confidence, and was rewarded with a starring role in proceedings at the Hungaroring last weekend.
The Tech 1 Racing driver secured two Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 victories on Sunday after an initial fourth place finish in race one, moving himself up into fourth place in the championship standings, a week after two race victories in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at Monza.
Aubry was delighted that the form that he was unable to show last year has now finally come, with consistency also becoming a part of his armour, and he feels that the work everyone did during the off-season is now being rewarded.
“I am beginning to really like this track,” said Aubry on renaultsport.com. “I had already won here in F4!
“After my first complete season in Formula Renault, I gave thought to quitting before I pulled myself together and worked with the team and a mental coach to regain my confidence. It took time, but the results have followed.
“I want to thank everyone at Tech 1 Racing for giving me a chance to comeback with such a competitive car. It is wonderful to bounce back like this!
“It has been a fantastic week with the two wins in NEC and a perfect Sunday in Budapest. Last year, consistency wasn’t my strong suit, so I am overjoyed to have kept this momentum going. All the work put in over the winter with the team is paying off. We scored 62 points this weekend, which shows we are back!“
