Maciej Janowski took victory at the Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix last night at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday. Janowski won the Kjærgaard Danish SGP and continued his success into the British SGP, to secure himself a back-to-back victory, ahead of Jason Doyle and Matej Zagar.

His victory saw him knock Patryk Dudek back to third place in the overall standings as they stand level on points but Janowski’s superior 2016 ranking playing in his favour. Doyle sits at the top of the standings, with a three point advantage over the Polish star.

But for Janowski, winning the British SGP is just the beginning as he sets his sights on the world title. When asked about his chances for gold, he said:

“I think we’ll all try and win it. But we still have six rounds to finish.

“Maybe someone else will fight for the gold in the end? All I know is I’m working hard at the moment and I’ll work even harder.

“We’ll see what happens next. We all know how it is in speedway. We can be so confident, but I need to stay focused and keep working hard. For now everything works. I need to keep that up and work a bit harder.”

British hopeful Tai Woffinden went to Cardiff with confidence, but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be for the former world champion. He ended the evening in ninth, accumulating just nine points compared to Janowski’s seventeen. He was the highest ranking Brit of the evening, with Josh Bates in fourteenth, Craig Cook in fifteenth and Adam Ellis in seventeenth.

Reigning World Champion Greg Hancock came to Principality Stadium as one of the favourites for the win. He lined up for the first heat, but subsequently pulled out of the event entirely. Hancock dislocated his shoulder while at home, and was forced to retire from the British SGP as it dislocated again during the practice session on Friday, and again during heat one on Saturday.

Next up in the Speedway GP calendar is the Teng Tools Swedish SGP in Malilla on August 12th, where Janowski will look to continue his winning streak and Doyle will be eager to extend his overall lead.
