Renault Sport F1 Team‘s Jolyon Palmer missed out on another chance to grab his first points of the season.
The Brit finished the Austrian Grand Prix in eleventh, seconds away from Williams Martini Racing‘s Lance Stroll who finished in tenth.
Palmer started in sixteenth and was one of two drivers to start the race on the soft Pirelli tyres. The Brit maintained a twelfth place position until pitting for his only stop on lap 34, pitting for the ultrasoft tyres. Palmer worked his way up to 11th and towards a near points finish, endured a forty lap battle with the Canadian but couldn’t find a way pass even with DRS.
“We started in P16 and finished eleventh, it’s my third race with an eleventh place finish, once more within touching distance of points!”
“I had Lance Stroll in my way for just over forty laps and couldn’t get past him, which is frustrating.”
Palmer finished ahead of his team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, the second time this season, who finished thirteenth. But Palmer feels that Qualifying is an area to work on to increase his chances of grabbing points.
“I need to focus on qualifying better, but throughout the weekend the pace seemed improved so overall there are some positives.”
Despite missing out on points again, Palmer looks forward to the British Grand Prix next weekend and hopes for more chances for points.
“It’s my home race coming up, and Silverstone’s a great track with a lot of fast corners and it’s one I really like to drive, so hopefully that can be the one that gets me in the points.” states Jolyon.
