George Russell has claimed the first pole position of his GP3 Series career to start on the top spot for the Feature Race at the Red Bull Ring.
The Briton is joined by team-mate and countryman Jack Aitken on the front row, with Dorian Boccolacci completing the top three.
When the track went green, all drivers were straight on track to waste as little time as possible getting up to speed.
Barcelona Sprint Race winner, Arjun Maini recorded the first competitive time six minutes into the the session but was quickly overtaken due to the emerging battle between Russell, Aitken and Boccolacci.
In a frantic final few minutes Aitken, Steijn Schothorst and eventually Russell all grabbed P1.
In his final run Aitken claimed P2 as Boccolacci crossed the line to take P3. Russell too was going quicker in the first sector before losing time throughout the rest of the lap.
Behind the top three the top ten lines up: Leonardo Pulcini, Schothorst, Giuliano Alesi, Ryan Tveter, Anthoine Hubert, Niko Kari and Nirei Fukuzumi.
Yesterday’s pacesetter Marcos Siebert lines up 18th on the grid.
In a session where the entire grid is covered by 0.8 hundredths, the slightest of improvement could have made a massive difference.
Race start is at 17.10 CEST and is one not to be missed.
