Ameya Vaidyanathan will make his FIA European Formula 3 Championship debut at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of July after signing for the remainder of the season with Carlin Motorsport.
The Indian racer will continue to race in the EuroFormula Open championship with the team, but will now fill the team’s fourth car in European Formula 3 alongside Lando Norris, Ferdinand Habsburg and his countryman Jehan Daruvala.
Vaidyanathan has already experienced the Formula 3 car back in 2016 when he raced in the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort, but he cannot wait to get going this season at a venue where he has already tasted victory.
“I’m really looking forward to dovetailing my EuroFormula Open commitments with the remainder of the FIA Formula Three season with Carlin,” said Vaidyanathan.
“The team has been consistently strong this season, and with three fast team-mates in Ferdinand, Jehan and Lando, I’m grateful to have such a massive opportunity to learn and improve as the year goes on.
“The field has proven to be uber-competitive, but I’m determined to contribute to the team’s overall success.”
Vaidyanathan will participate first in the pre-event test at Spa-Francorchamps on 25 July, with Racing Director Trevor Carlin thrilled to be able to add the Indian to the line-up for the remainder of 2017.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ameya to our Formula Three team for the rest of the season,” said Carlin. “He has been a real asset to our EuroFormula Open team and has really impressed us with his dedication, determination and results from the season so far.
“It’s going to be a whole new challenge for him in the FIA Formula Three Championship but we know from experience that he will be putting everything in to the upcoming weekend and rest of the season.
“We look forward to see what he can achieve in the competitive field.”
