Mucke Confirm Christensen After Strong Testing Showing

1 Mins read

Mucke Motorsport have finally confirmed that Michael Christensen will race for them in the 2011 GP3 Series season, after the Danish driver's strong showing for the team throughout pre-season testing.

The signing of Christensen completes the German's team's three-car lineup for the 2011 season. He joins Dutchman Nigel Melker, who returns for a second season with the team, and Austrian Willi Steindl, who graduates from the German F3 Cup.

Christensen raced in the inaugural season of GP3 for the MW Arden team, but failed to score a single point over the course of the year. His signing for Mucke marks a return to the team that he raced for in the 2009 Formula BMW Europe season, where he finished fourth in the standings, but could have been higher had it not been for a breach of technical regulations by the team.

Christensen has driven for Mucke on every day of the pre-season tests held at Paul Ricard, Silverstone and Barcelona. He was often found towards the top of the timesheets, even going quickest overall on the final day of the Silverstone test.

“It's very exciting for me to come back to Mucke Motorsport to do GP3 together,” said Christensen. “When I drove for Mucke in Formula BMW in 2009 we had a great co-operation and I really respect the team's professionalism. Pre-season testing has been technically encouraging as well as good fun and it was especially great to get some quick laps in at Silverstone. I am feeling confident about this year and just counting the days until the first race.”

“Michael convinced us in the past the same way he has at the 2011 GP3 pre-season tests, where he was running at the front most of the time and at Silverstone he was even fastest in one session,” said team principal Peter Mücke. “Because of his experience at the GP3 Series we hope that he will be up front at the races as well.”
