Sims Quickest In Wet Second Practice To Keep Brits On Top At Silverstone

1 Mins read

Alexander Sims was the quickest man in a wet second free practice for the GP3 Series at Silverstone, keeping the home drivers on top after Adrian Quaife-Hobbs had gone fastest in the morning session.

Lewis Williamson, who was second fastest to Quaife-Hobbs in the first session, could not manage to go one better in the afternoon and had to settle for second place.

The session began in treacherous conditions following a downpour during GP2 qualifying. Williamson and Sims were the first to master the conditions to put themselves at the top of the timesheets. They were joined by Quaife-Hobbs and his Manor teammate Rio Haryanto.

17-year-old Russian rookie Maxim Zimin then went a surprise fastest, only to spin at Abbey at the start of his next lap and bring an early end to his session.

As conditions cleared midway through the session Williamson returned to top spot, but he would be knocked off top by Sims who went 0.930 seconds quicker to end the session on top.

Daniel Morad was third fastest, ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Haryanto. Vittorio Ghirelli was sixth ahead of Jenzer teammate Nico Muller, with Quaife-Hobbs in eighth. Zoel Amberg and Nigel Melker rounded out the top ten.
