Roberto Merhi ended his dominant 2011 campaign in the Formula 3 Euro Series with victory in the last race of the season at Hockenheim.
Merhi had to defend aggressively from Race 2 winner Felix Rosenqvist on the opening lap but the Swede's challenge later came to an end when he spun out on lap nine.
Nigel Melker inherited second place, coming home just 1.5 seconds behind Merhi after the Spaniard eased off at the end. Merhi's teammate Daniel Juncadella finished third, but fourth place was enough for Marco Wittmann to secure the runner-up spot overall ahead of Juncadella.
Euro Series newcomer Carlos Sainz Jr finished fifth, ahead of Daniel Abt, Jimmy Eriksson and Gianmarco Raimondo.
