Miki Monras laid down a marker ahead of the FIA Formula Two Championship season finale by setting the pace in testing on Thursday at the Circuit de Catalunya.
It will be a welcome return to form for the 19-year-old from nearby Barcelona, who has had a disappointing run since winning at the season opener at Silverstone.
“We've had a really good day and was quick in both the wet and dry which is good because the weather forecast is mixed for this weekend,” he explained. “I'm really confident heading into the final rounds and really want to give my best, especially with it being my home track that I know well and have a lot of people supporting me.”
His fastest time of the day, a 1:38.279s, came in the first of the four sessions. Recently-crowned champion Mirko Bortolotti was second fastest overall, 0.193s shy. The Italian was the only man to better Monras in any of the day's sessions, going quicker than the Spaniard in the final wet session.
Alex Brundle was third fastest, and the last man within one second of Monras. Kelvin Snoeks was fourth, with Benjamin Lariche fifth. Jack Clarke was sixth, ahead of Tobias Hegewald, Mihai Marinescu, Mikkel Mac and Thiemo Storz.
