Jenzer Motorsport have announced that Romanian youngster Robert Visoiu will race for them in the GP3 Series this year.
Visoiu, who only turned 16 years old last Friday, makes the step up after racing for the Swiss squad in Formula Abarth last year. There he finished fourth in the European classification and sixth in the Italian classification, with race wins at Misano and Barcelona.
He then tested for Jenzer in the post-season GP3 tests at both Valencia and Jerez, and was found towards the top end of the timesheets on more than one occasion, finishing the final afternoon session at Jerez in second place.
Prior to making his car racing debut in Formula Abarth last year, Visoiu achieved success in karting, finishing runner-up in the 2010 WSK KF3 World and Master categories, as well as sixth in the Euro Series.
Visoiu is the first driver to be announced by Jenzer for the 2012 campaign. In 2010 they finished third in both the teams' and drivers' points with Nico Muller, who then finished fourth in 2011 with the team, who were seventh in the teams' title race.
The 2012 GP3 Series gets underway in support of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix on 12/13 May, with three pre-season tests beginning at Estoril next Wednesday and Thursday (22/23 February).
