David Wagner has confirmed his entry into the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship with MGR Motorsport.

MSA Academy member Wagner competed with MGR in the series in 2011, taking a best result of fourth on his way to eleventh in the championship. The 19 year old's achievements were recognised when he was chosen as a finalist for the 2011 RSF MSA Young Driver of the Year award and the Strathclyde University student is now aiming for a title challenge in 2012.

Wagner said: “After a strong first year with MGR, it is important to build on that experience and I am confident that we can work together and fight for the championship. I am delighted to have Carrick Packaging, Nexus Internet, Domain Name Shop and Nexus Packaging supporting me this year. I will work very hard to repay their faith in me.”

MGR's Team Principal Mark Godwin commented: “It is great to have David back on board for a second season. He really showed us last year that he has the pace to win races and the title. We have planned a thorough pre-season testing programme to get him fully prepared.”

Wagner's preparations for season began this week, with the Scotsman heading to Thruxton with MGR for their first test of the season. The team now head to Snetterton and Rockingham at the beginning of March for their next tests.

Commenting on testing, Wagner added: “The test went very well. We were back up to race pace quickly and as soon as we bolted a fresh set of tyres on I was well inside my 2011 qualifying time. We were running one of the test engines so I hope to find a bit more speed with the race engine fitted.

“I am already looking forward to getting back in the car. Snetterton and Rockingham are the first two tracks on the race calendar so it will be important we get the best set up possible.”
