MTECH Pair Start Brands Weekend On Top

After just missing out on the podium a fortnight ago at Rockingham Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron start the Avon Tyres British GT Championship weekend at Brands Hatch as points leader.

The pair – driving for MTECH – started from pole position for last year's race at the Kent track, and finished second and will be aiming for similar performance in this weekend's two hour race to consolidate their points lead before the summer break.

“So far this year we have been very strong and consistent in British GT,” said Griffin, whose debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans ended in disappointment when his teammate was involved in the crash that put Anthony Davidson in hospital. “We had a very good test at Spa in Belgium on Tuesday and Brands should suit the Ferrari 458 so I am feeling very confident. Last year we qualified on pole for the Brands race and finished 2nd so if we can go one better in the race this year I will be very happy!”

The pair already have three podiums to their name in the first five races of the season, including a victory at the Nurburgring. A second win at Brands Hatch would move them further clear – the longer race paying more points than the hour long races that form the bulk of the championship.

“Moving into the second half of the Championship and leading the standings is great,” said team principal and owner Mike Edmonds. “However itʼs the points on the board in October that the prizes are awarded for. Getting to the top of the standings is never easy but staying there is a tougher job.”

“That said, weʼre all ready to do battle again and feeling confident of our chances. With a 20s Ê»successʼ penalty at Rockingham two weeks ago we still managed to finish 4th and less than 5s behind the race winner. Without the penalty thereʼs no doubt weʼd have won and we aim to put that right this weekend.”
