Aron Smith Blog: Finally Getting Somewhere!

2 Mins read

So it’s safe to say I’ve had my fair bit of controversy surrounding myself but I think I’m now starting to show that I actually belong in the championship. It’s been a tough year with more lows than highs but you’ve no idea how much the team have been behind me and that’s what has really made the difference. Something that I’ll never forget was the eruption in parc ferme as I opened my door after finished third in race one, moments like that are the reason I ever started racing.. There really is nothing like it.

All the hard work the team have put in, from my lucky egg to getting me Nessie and I guess spannering a pretty decent race car, has finally started to pay of! Everyone only ever see’s the racing that we do but I’d honestly say that’s only 10% of the work that goes into this, all the guys at Redstone make it all happen.. I do the easy part!

Race two was another great race for me, to still finish fourth with the success ballast in the car was unreal. It’s the first time I’ve driven the car with that type of weight in it so to still finish right at the sharp end was great. I came so close to tasting some more champagne when I momentarily got by Newsham but it wasn’t to be. I would’ve been kicking myself if I didn’t go for it, so while it didn’t pay off, I would do the exact same again if I was in that position, you have to go for every single opportunity!

Race three was a little bit more rough and tumble but that’s life, not everything can go your way so I wasn’t too beat up about it. Between taking avoiding action and being used as someone else’s breaks, I felt like a yo-yo, up and down the top ten like it was nobodies business! But to come away from a weekend with my first podium, a fourth and a ninth was the type of weekend I thought might be possible in my second year so it see it become a reality was incredible.

Now onto Brands GP, a track I’ve always loved and now I feel like we have the car set up the way I love it. Fingers crossed I can have anywhere near as good of weekend, if I’m anywhere near the front I’ll he chuffed! If your about be sure to drop down to my garage, plenty of wristbands floating around and you may even catch a glimpse of my lucky mascot Nessie!

Thanks for reading :)
