Cooper Tires celebrates the new 2014 World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg

Cooper Tires is the official tyre supplier to the FIA World Rallycross Championship this year and with Petter Solberg clinching the Drivers Title in Italy last time out, the tyre manufacturer has celebrated this achievement.

At the previous round, FIA World Rallycross Associate Partner and exclusive tyre supplier, Cooper Tire Europe, shadowed Petter Solberg at the Estering Circuit on a weekend where Solberg took victory by the smallest margin in the sport’s history – five thousandths of a second. In doing that, Solberg also setup the first chance to clinch the Drivers Title in Italy, which he went on to do.

In what has been an enthralling and exciting season so far, there has been plenty of close, axtion packed racing with events that have seen up to 40 Supercars alone entered and wins taken by the manufacturer backed teams of Ford, Volkswagen, Peugeot, whilst Petter Solberg has taken his PSRX run Citroen DS3 Supercar to four wins to claim the title.

Marketing Communications Manager for Cooper Tire Europe, Sarah McRoberts, commented: “We want to congratulate Petter Solberg on becoming not only the inaugural World Rallycross Champion, but also the first ever double discipline FIA World Champion,” she explained, “It has been a fabulous season so far and we are proud to be associated with such an exciting series. Cooper’s rallycross tyres are specifically designed to cope with the incredible demands put on them by the host of talented drivers in World Rallycross and we are committed to delivering a premium tyre for this unique motorsport discipline.”

There are two rounds remaining in this years FIA World Rallycross Championship, the first of which takes place at the former Grand Prix venue at Istanbul Park in Turkey this weekend on 11-12 October.
