Review: TCF’s Top 10 GP3 Series Drivers of 2014

8) Dino Zamparelli

Dino Zamparelli was the only driver to finish inside the top ten in the championship that did not take a victory in 2014, but his six podium finishes during the year and his very consistent race pace led him to finish seventh in the standings – he only failed to score points on four occasions all year.

Having move to the ART Grand Prix from Marussia Manor Racing for his second GP3 Series season, Zamparelli was able to take his first podium finish in race two at the Circuit de Catalunya, and followed that up with additional podiums at Hockenheim, the Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and Abu Dhabi.

His only failures to score all year were in race one at the Red Bull Ring, race two at Monza and both races of a mediocre weekend at Sochi. Without those results, it is not inconceivable that he could have improved on his seventh place in the championship, especially with fourth to eighth being so tightly contested.

Despite not taking that elusive first victory, Zamparelli’s stock rose in 2014, and he could be in line for a promotion to the GP2 Series for next year, after testing with Status Grand Prix at the recent Abu Dhabi tests.
