GP3 newcomers Campos Racing have announced Spaniard Alex Palou and Kuwati Zaid Ashkanani as their drivers for the 2015 season.
17 year-old Palou finished third in Euroformula Open in 2014 with Campos Racing. The Spaniard claimed three wins and fought for the title in an impressive debut year.
Palou impressed the team again in November in his first outing in the GP3 car during testing in Abu Dhabi. The youngster finished with one of the quickest collective times.
Ashkanani, who carried out a number of tests for Campos Racing in Formula 3, claimed the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East last year against a highly competitive field.
Both drivers are excited by the prospect of racing in GP3 and are hoping to achieve good results.
“I am very excited by the prospect of joining this new GP3 project with Campos Racing,” said Palou. “I shall do my best to achieve the best possible results and to live up to the trust of Adrian Campos and my sponsors.”
Ashkanani said: “I am very happy to race with Campos Racing in the GP3 Series and it will be a big challenge for me. I am really looking forward to it.”
Team Principal Adrian Campos is looking forward to his team’s new project in GP3 and says he hopes to announce another driver soon.
“I am very glad as this new project in the GP3 Series is very promising, and it is going to be great to have both Alex and Zaid with us,” said Campos.
“Alex Palou already proved his worth during the collective tests held in the series in Abu Dhabi. I know Zaid pretty well as we have already worked together for a long time. It is worth mentioning he took the Porsche Middle East title last year.
“We will make every effort to ensure we have a competitive package for them. I hope to announce another driver shortly.”
