Team Motopark have announced their third driver for the 2015 FIA European Formula 3 Championship season with Indian teenager Mahaveer Raghunathan moving up into the series.
The sixteen-year-old will be one of the youngest drivers on the grid in 2015, and will race alongside the already confirmed Sam MacLeod and Markus Pommer at the German team.
Raghunathan raced in the inaugural season of the Italian Formula 4 championship in 2014, finishing twelfth in the championship for the F&M team, finishing a best of sixth place, which he did on four occasions towards the end of the year. He also tested for a number of Formula 3 teams before signing for Motopark.
“I look forward to making the next step on the motor-racing ladder with a team like Motopark,” insisted Raghunathan. “I enjoyed the testing sessions with the Motopark team who made sure I would be comfortable driving the car and were with me in every step.
“FIA Formula 3 European Championship would be a challenge for a young rookie like me and I plan to give my best, focussing on every race.”
Team Principal Timo Rumpfkeil spoke highly of his new driver, and is convinced he can perform well in Euro F3 in 2015.
“The Italian beginner formulae haven turned out a very good breeding ground for young talents,” said Rumpfkeil. “For Mahaveer Raghunathan to cut his teeth there shows how determined he is to make it to the top – and convinced us that we can turn him into a force to be reckoned with in F3.”
