Mark Howard has moved from 20Ten Racing to Team Pyro ahead of the third meeting of the 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup season at Thruxton this weekend.
Howard, who won the Renault 5 ELF Turbo UK Cup back in 1993, took a best finish of tenth overall in the first four races season with 20Ten, who he joined mid-way through his debut Clio season last year.
Whilst the 50 year old currently holds second position in the Masters Cup standings, he has not really been in contention for a class victory yet and hopes the move to Pyro can boost his chances of challenging for the class title.
“I’ve kept my eyes open since first coming into the Clio Cup in 2014 and a couple of teams really stick out with their track records – Pyro is obviously one of those so I’ve jumped at the chance to join them,” said Howard.
“I’m excited. Lee Pattison joined them for Thruxton last year and suddenly put in on pole position. I’m not saying I can do that but I want to fight for the Masters Cup crown and it will be interesting to see what difference it might make to my performance and results. Certainly there are no excuses when you are in a team like Pyro….”
The addition of Howard expands the team’s line-up to four cars for the first time this year, with Howard joining outright race-winners Ashley Sutton and Ash Hand, as well as Brett Smith.
