Karting graduate Josh Price has signed up to complete the remainder of the 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup season with championship leaders Team Pyro.
Price will become one of the youngest drivers in the championship’s history when he joins the grid for his car-racing debut at Rockingham this weekend (5/6 September).
Price will be just 16 years, eight months and 17 days old for the weekend’s opening race, though he won’t trouble the record set by Tom Onslow-Cole of 16 years and 22 days in 2003.
The Hertfordshire-based racer has made a name for himself in British and European Mini and Junior Max karting in recent seasons.
“I’m jumping straight from rear-wheel-drive karts to a front-wheel-drive hot hatch race car and to be honest I don’t feel the transition has been has hard as some people might think,” Price told Renaultsport. “I’ve known for some time the Clio Cup is the place to be if I want to learn the race craft I’ll need for touring cars.
“I’ve tested the Clio Cup car and seemed to have got to grips with it quite quickly, although I’m not setting my sights too high just yet – it is such a competitive championship and suddenly racing on such a big stage this weekend is going to be a bit of an eye-opener.
“I’m also going to be joining the top team in the business in Team Pyro whose top two drivers Ash Hand and Ashley Sutton are currently first and third in the championship. It’s the ultimate benchmark!”
