1 Mins read

Scuderia Toro Rosso have revealed that Carlos Sainz Jr escaped injury in his high speed crash during final practice at the Sochi Autodrom that saw the session curtailed early due to barrier repairs.

The Spaniard appeared to lose control of his car under braking heading into turn thirteen and speared through the TecPro barriers into the Armco barriers, and was subsequently attended to at trackside by the marshals and the medical team before being taken to hospital by helicopter.

Toro Rosso have revealed Sainz never lost consciousness throughout the accident, and was able to turn his STR10 off safely so the marshals could extract him from the car, with the Spaniard talking to them throughout.

A full body scan at hospital revealed no injuries, but Sainz will remain in hospital overnight as a precaution, but has already tweeted about the race on Sunday and how he wants to be a part of it.
