Middleton Seals Winter Title With Third Snetterton Win

2 Mins read

Stuart Middleton has won the 2015 Ginetta Junior Winter Series title with a race to spare after making it three dominant wins in three races at Snetterton.

Middleton could only qualify fifth on the grid for Sunday’s opening race, but that didn’t phase the Douglas Motorsport ace as he scythed through the order on the opening lap to take the lead.

Pole-sitter Lewis Brown slipped to third on the opening lap, but regained the position on lap two as the fast-starting Billy Monger fell down to ninth place to continue a tough weekend.

As Middleton pulled clear, leading by nearly four seconds by the end of lap three, Brown held a fairly comfortable second place over Dave Wooder.

Behind, the man on the move was Sebastian Perez, who rose from ninth on the grid to seventh on lap one, before passing Monger, Will Tregurtha and Charlie Fagg to move into the top four.

By the end of the six lap encounter, Middleton has stretched his lead to eight and a half seconds as he posted the fastest lap of the weekend so far, 2m 29.156s.

The victory, coupled with closest points challenger Fagg dropping to eighth as the race progressed, gives Middleton an unassailable advantage heading into the final race.

Brown pulled clear for second place, a positive result following a tough opening day, while on the penultimate lap Perez snuck ahead of Wooder for his maiden car-racing podium finish.

Wooder eventually dropped to seventh on the final lap, promoted Tregurtha to fourth ahead of a recovering Monger, with Geri Nicosia completing the top six.

Behind Wooder and Fagg, Harry King crossed the line as the top rookie entrant in ninth, though fellow debutant Max Bird was close behind in tenth.

Connor Grady took eleventh ahead of Seb Priaulx, the latter taking his best finish of the weekend so far, with Rowan Bailey and Alex Day next up, the latter having dropped to the back of the field on lap one.

Jordan Dempsey, Anthony Ayres, James Roe Jnr and Charlie Digby completed the finishers on the lead lap, with Frank Bird finishing two laps down following an early visit to the pitlane.
