Vanquish Motorsport have announced plans to enter the Renault UK Clio Cup for the first time this season, running a single car for Paul Plant.
Plant will join the grid with some previous Clio Cup experience having contested the 2009 Winter Series with Stancombe Vehicle Engineering, taking a best result of fourth in the seven-car field.
The 32 year old’s main racing experience has come campaigning Alfa Romeo’s with the Vanquish team, having made his car-racing debut in the 2008 Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship.
In the years since, Plant has also contested races in the European Alfa Romeo Challenge, CSCC Tin-Tops, MSV Team Trophy and CSCC Future Classic series.
The Vanquish team have acquired an ex-Paul Rivett fourth-generation Clio for this season and will work closely with the WDE Motorsport this year.
Their relationship has already seen them work together during test days at Brands Hatch and Thruxton this month.
“We’re ready to step up and show the UK what Vanquish Motorsport is all about,” said team co-owner Jon Billingsley.
“We expect big things from Paul. He has placed highly in various championships in recent years, and shown outstanding pace in pre-season testing in the Clio. We’ll enjoy seeing him push the frontrunners to their limits in this ultra-competitive championship.”
