Nico Hulkenberg suffered another miserable race of scoring no points for the second race in a row.

The Renault Sport F1 Driver‘s race began in disaster after triggering anti-stall whilst on the grid. Hulkenberg, who started in 11th place dropped down the order and found it hard to fight back.

“It was a difficult race for me. I had a terrible start; I triggered the anti-stall mode where the clutch kicks in to protect a stall from the engine because the grip on the grid is quite high here.”

Starting on a new set of Supersoft tyres, the German struggled to get to grip with the tyres. Renault opted to help Hulkenberg out by bringing him in early on lap 14 for a set of Soft tyres in order to help him push back up the field.

“We were struggling on the Supersoft tyres with overheating as well as with balance and grip. We decided to do an early first stop, putting on the Softs, but then the leaders were coming through and I had blue flags twice, losing huge amounts of time.”

Hulkenberg ended the race in 13th place, 2 places behind his team-mate Jolyon Palmer.

The German is now tied on points with Lance Stroll and Romain Grosjean in the championship, sitting in 12th place with a total of 18 points.

Hulkenberg is looking to find out why today was a disaster with the Enstone based team and ensure there’s no repeat for the British Grand Prix next weekend.

“It was pretty difficult today; we need to review what happened and fully focus on Silverstone.”
