Formula 1 and Facebook will collaborate to release a four episode documentary series based on the first F1 eSports Series Pro Draft that took place.
The documentary will be released on Facebook and selected broadcast channels, with the first episode of the series set to begin on Wednesday 25th at 8PM UK Time.
Sixteen gamers were selected in a pool of 40 drivers from nine official F1 teams for the Pro Draft. The series is set to commence in October for three rounds on the new F1 2018 game to crown a drivers’ and teams’ champion.
The series will explore how the likes of Olli Pahkala, Graham Carroll,Fabrizio Donoso Delgado and Cem Bolukbasi got on in the assessment days and within the Pro Draft day itself.
Head of Growth and eSports at F1, Julian Tan, spoke to Autosport.com and believes that the documentary on Facebook will help expand and showcase the series ahead of the upcoming championship.
“It has been quite the journey for these drivers to emerge as the world’s best on our official F1 game to partake in our inaugural F1 Esports Pro Draft.” said Tan.
“This four-part episodic series will tell the story of these drivers, who were flown from across the globe into the historic Silverstone circuit to take part in this.
“There they were assessed on all aspects from sim racing and fitness to media readiness and go-karting, eventually earning a chance to be picked by an official F1 team.
“The episodic series will also shed light into the F1 teams, providing a behind-the-scenes look into their objectives and plans in esports and what they are looking for in their future esports drivers.
“No doubt, we will have some interesting content in these episodes as we build up the excitement leading into our first ever F1 Esports Pro Series Championship later in the season.”
The four episodes will showcase the days leading up to the Pro Draft with the 40 gamers put to the test through the assessments and interview challenges.
Episode one, which will air on Wednesday 25th July, will show the gamers be tested in the sim racing challenge. The second episode will be aired on the 22nd August which will evaluate the mental and physical skills of the contestants as well as a head-to-head go-kart race.
The interview round will be the main setting for the third episode on September 5th and the conclusion to the series will be aired on 26th September, which will be a retelling of the Pro Draft with Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly joining the F1 teams in the selections for the eSports series.
