Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur has praised Charles Leclerc for his great motivation and talent that has led to his promotion to Scuderia Ferrari for the 2019 Formula 1 Season.
The Monegasque driver will make the step up to Ferrari, replacing Kimi Räikkönen who will take over the Sauber seat left over by Leclerc for the next two years.
Leclerc has impressed in his rookie year in F1, scoring his first points with a sixth place finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in only his fourth race. He has also made numerous Qualifying 3 appearances during his time in the sport.
The twenty-year old is part of Ferrari’s Driver Academy and has won multiple junior categories, winning the 2016 GP3 Series and the 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship before making the step up to F1.
Leclerc currently lies fifteenth overall in the drivers’ championship with 13 points to his name.
Sauber team boss Frédéric Vasseur selected Leclerc into their line up for the 2018 season and with the news he will making the step to Ferrari, has said he’s given the team motivation and is aware of the level of talent Leclerc has with his future at the Scuderia.

“Since his arrival, he has given the team great motivation. We have constantly improved and we will work hard until the end of this season to achieve the best possible results together.
