ART Grand Prix have completed their 2019 FIA Formula 2 line-up by signing Nyck de Vries.
The Dutch driver will reunite with the French team, having competed with them in the 2016 GP3 Series. de Vries raced with Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing in 2018, taking three wins in the year and ending fourth overall in the drivers’ championship.
de Vries will join ART alongside 2018 GP3 series runner-up Nikita Mazepin and the pairing will make their testing debut with the team this week at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The twenty-three year old is grateful to be returning to the team that he raced with in 2016, where he contributed to winning the teams’ title for the French squad.
“I’m grateful to ART Grand Prix for giving me this opportunity to continue my career in Formula 2,” said de Vries.
“We have a long history together; our relationship has always been great and it feels like coming home! We also have unfinished business and I’m happy to have the opportunity to try to finish it next year in Formula 2 where our goal will be to be crowned champions.”
ART completed this years’ F2 championship winning the drivers’ title with George Russell at the helm. They missed out on completing a double as Carlin Motorsport won the teams’ title.
ART’s CEO Sébastien Philippe is happy to welcome back de Vries into the ART family and has set their goals for the upcoming season: complete the double with Mazepin and de Vries on board.
“I am very happy that the paths of Nyck and ART Grand Prix are crossing once again. His experience, his seriousness and his top speed make him one of the natural leaders in Formula 2,” said Philippe.
“Since our first partnership in GP3, we have seen him progress in all areas, both sporting and personal and he has all the qualities that will allow him to achieve his greatest ambitions and that of the company, namely securing both titles in Formula 2 in 2019”.
