Luca Ghiotto has completed UNI-Virtuosi Racing‘s line up for the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
The Italian will enter his fourth season in the series and will return to the team previously known as Russian Time. Ghiotto raced with the team in 2017 alongside Artem Markelov, winning the 2017 teams’ championship along the way.
UNI-Virtuosi Racing join Prema Racing and ART Grand Prix to confirm their driver line up for next year, with rookie Guanyu Zhou announced yesterday.
Ghiotto tested with the team beforehand at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, after finishing the season with Campos Vexatec Racing where he finished eighth overall in the drivers’ table.
The Italian says he is looking forward to re-joining the team he raced with in 2017. “I am obviously very excited to be joining UNI-Virtuosi Racing,” said Ghiotto. “I am re-joining this group of hard-working people just 12 months after our last race together in 2017.
“Each one in the Team have the highest culture of motorsport and a winning pedigree, which you can feel in every single act and their approach to motor racing. Obviously, our common target is to do much better than in 2017, when we ended fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
“I would like to thank Paul, Declan, Andy and all the team for this opportunity. I’m sure it is going to be an intense and successful season for us together.”
UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s team principal Andy Roche says the signing of Ghiotto to the team makes him an asset for 2019, alongside Zhou as his team-mate.
“Luca tested in Abu Dhabi with us last week and immediately felt comfortable as did the team. It was like he had never been away!” said Roche
He will be an invaluable asset to the team for 2019 and, alongside Guanyu Zhou, we have a formidable pairing for the upcoming season.”
